Enthesitis- where the spondyloarthropathy begins (summary)

Tendon attachments, which are the site of high forces in the musculoskeletal system, are currently in the spotlight as a place of initiation of the inflammatory process in the group of inflammatory rheumatic diseases especially in spondyloarthropathy. The following review is a summary of current knowledge about the role of tendon attachments in the pathogenesis of such diseases like psoriatic arthritis or ankylosing arthritis. Diagnostic methods for early detection of inflammation in tendon attachments have also been discussed. Better understanding of the ongoing processes in entheses, will open new perspectives in the therapy of spondyloarthropathy, The article presents current knowledge and guidelines for the treatment of enthesitis.
